TaylorMade’s new M5 and M6 drivers take speed to new levels with Speed Injected Twist Face Technology.
In 2018, TaylorMade engineers developed Twist Face Technology to counteract misses with a ‘twisted’ face. The M5 and M6 drivers take Twist Face to the next level with the introduction of Speed Injected Twist Face Technology.
Four key features help maximise ball speed to the allowable limit: Ultra-thin Titanium face with redesigned Inverted Cone Technology (ICT) / Reengineered, more-flexible Hammerhead 2.0 slot / Internal support foam with variable amounts of injected resin / A proprietary algorithm to tune each head.
Every clubhead is inspected, measured, and tuned for maximum speed and to ensure conformity. In fact, each driver is initially designed above the legal limit before going through the tuning process where resin is injected to ensure maximum speed for each head. The process utilises two new tuning ports on the face of both models and a proprietary algorithm to ensure the appropriate amount of resin is used.
A significant benefit of the thinner, faster face design is that it provides the M5 and M6 drivers with faster off-centre COR, thus increasing forgiveness. This is optimised with up to a 20% reduction in thickness that results in a 66% larger sweet spot in the M5 drivers over the M3 and more than 100% larger than the original M1 in 2015.
M5 and M5 Tour Drivers
The M5 and M5 Tour drivers are designed from the sole up to be the highest-performing drivers in TaylorMade history. In addition to Twist Face and Speed Injected technologies, TaylorMade has also incorporated numerous additional technologies. Aesthetically, a new vibrant blood orange colour and two-tone composite sole make for a visually stunning product that draws immediate attention and has drawn rave reviews on tour.
Inverted T-Track: A new Inverted T-Track makes personalisation more intuitive and simplified than ever and allows the golfer more precise CG adjustability with 1,770 unique CG configurations. This is made possible through the allowance of 20g of moveable weight (two 10g weights) to be utilised for both the benefit of heel-to-toe control as well as front-to-back CG adjustment.
The adjustability process has been made easy and intuitive with high/low and draw/fade settings. The front-to-back CG shift allows golfers to fine-tune ball flight through launch angle and backspin. The flat curvature of the front/back track provides the lowest CG possible regardless of the weight setting, promoting high launch and low spin in any configuration.
The Inverted T-Track also provides a wide range of MOI options – both weights positioned all the way forward creates the lowest CG projection to maximise speed with very low spin, while pushing the weights all the way back into both sections maximises MOI and forgiveness. This provides up to one degree of launch angle and 600rpm of spin change as well as 25 yards of left-to-right adjustability.
Additionally, the 2° loft sleeve allows for the adjustment of loft, lie angle and face angle. Combined with the Inverted T-Track, the M5 is TaylorMade’s most customisable driver ever.
Carbon Composite Crown & Sole: TaylorMade’s fourth generation carbon composite technology results in more efficient mass distribution compared to traditional metalwood construction. The use of composite crown and sole panels increases discretionary weight, which is used to create an optimised centre of gravity to deliver a hotter trajectory with increased forgiveness.

M6 and M6 D-Type Drivers
The new M6 and M6 D-Type drivers are, like the M5, injected to the maximum legal level with the introduction of Speed Injected Twist Face Technology, where each clubhead is individually speed tested and injected with tuning resin to optimise COR across the entire face and deliver maximum ball speed.
The M6 driver also features Twist Face Technology to produce more consistent spin where golfers commonly mis-hit. The face of the M6 is slightly taller, by 1mm to be exact, than the M5.
Aerodynamic Carbon Sole with ‘Inertia Generator’: Featuring the same six-layer carbon composite crown as the M5, the 2019 M6 drivers add a complete carbon fibre sole which allows for significantly more discretionary weight – as much as 54% more than the M4. The weight savings allowed TaylorMade’s engineers to create a sleek, aerodynamic shape inclusive of the new ‘inertia generator’, which houses the additional discretionary weight extremely low and back to create more forgiveness while lowering the CG compared to the previous model.
Draw Bias Version: The M6 D-Type driver delivers the same performance benefits as the standard driver in a draw-biased, easy-to-launch version. The key feature is the optical engineering that creates a high-contrast topline masking, configured to make the face appear more open than the actual angle. In addition, the centre of gravity is moved slightly toward the heel to further aid in delivering a square clubface at impact. The combined result is 20 yards more draw bias than the standard M6.
