The 2018 Professional Golf of Malaysia (PGM) Tour will offer total prizemoney of more than RM5.2 million across 38 events, 12 of which will be co-sanctioned with the Asian Development Tour (ADT).
PGM chairman Tun Ahmad Sarji noted that the 2018 PGM Tour schedule is unique as it will comprise six segments in one tour.
“Number one, there will be 12 ADT events with an allocation of RM2,675,000. Segment No 2 will comprise eight PGM closed events with an allocation of RM1,700,000. This means that there will be 20 events that PGM Tour cardholders can participate in,” said Tun Ahmad during today’s launch at TPC Kuala Lumpur.
“Segment No 3 will be six PGM qualifying school events with an allocation of RM90,000. Segment No 4 will be 10 PGM ladies events with an allocation of RM350,000. No 5, we will continue with the PGM-IGT (Indonesia Golf Tour) Ryder Cup-style event with an allocation of RM200,000. No 6, we will continue with one PGM senior event with an allocation of RM200,000. The total allocation for next year would be RM5,215,000,” he added.
Asian Tour chairman Jimmy Masrin was present at the launch, which started off with moving tributes to Malaysian golf icon P. Gunasegaran and PGM official Patrick Chee who both passed away this year.
The 2018 PGM Tour tees off with the RM200,000 PGM Perlis Closed Championship at Putra Golf Club on January 17-20, the week after the third EurAsia Cup match at Glenmarie Golf & Country Club. This will be followed by the RM225,000 PGM Darulaman Championship, which is co-sanctioned with the ADT and carries Official World Golf Ranking points.
Tun Ahmad and Masrin also revealed that they will be working closely together to try and stage a full-field Asian Tour event in Malaysia next year.
