Adam and Jenny triumph at Glenmarie

The champions with AmBank's Syed Anuar Syed Ali (L) and SportExcel chairman Tunku Tan Sri Imran Tuanku Ja’afar (R)

Malaysia’s Adam Arif Madzri and  Thailand’s Jenny Ham won the overall boys’ and girls’ titles respectively in the 12th AmBank SportExcel International Junior Championship which concluded yesterday at Glenmarie Golf & Country Club.

Adam carded rounds of 76, 70 and 70 for a 216 total at Glenmarie’s Garden Course, edging last year’s winner Zubair Firdaus by two shots in the Boys’ 15-18 category. Two other Malaysians, Rhaarikanesh Kanavathi and Sheikh Abd Razak Sheikh Rawof, settled for joint third place a shot further back. Rhaarikanesh carded the low score of the tournament, a superb four-under-par 68, in the final round.

“I played really well throughout the tournament except on the first day where I blew a few shots. Overall it was a good tournament for me. I was hitting the ball well and I think my driving helped my game the most,” said Adam.

Jenny won the Girls’ 15-18 category with a total of 220 (71-74-75), edging Malaysia’s Liyana Durisic who had led for the first two days. Liyana had opened with a superb 69 and stayed in front with a second round 73, but a closing 80 allowed the Thai to overhaul her.

Jenny received a one-year scholarship from Hills Golf Academy in the Gold Coast, Australia, worth approximately RM150,000.
