Kuala Lumpur, February 12: Ben Leong carded a solid closing 69 to take top Malaysian honours in joint 12th position on nine-under-par at the Maybank Championship.
The 31-year-old from Kota Kinabalu carded six birdies against three bogeys at Saujana Golf & Country Club’s Palm Course.
“It’s been a mixed bag for me this week; hit some good shots, hit some really poor ones but I didn’t end up with anything bad and stayed in the game and stayed within myself,” said Leong.
Leong noted that this was an important result for him coming off two missed cuts in his return to the Asian Tour.
“I needed to do something for an better re-rank. I was playing okay but wasn’t making good scores but that’s golf. I just thought it through after the two missed cuts and worked on the right things, worked the smart way,'” he stressed.
“I’m very satisfied with this week. After this performance I shouldn’t have any problems getting into more tournaments on the Asian Tour after the re-rank, so this week definitely helped a lot,” added Leong, who will take a two-week break before returning to action on the domestic circuit.
