Malaysia’s Ervin Chang claimed low amateur honours at the SMBC Singapore Open with a joint 34th finish at Sentosa Golf Club.
Chang carded rounds of 68, 73, 67 and 73 for a three-under-par total at the challenging Serapong Course. The 20-year-old was just one shot behind professional compatriot Nicholas Fung.
“Overall, I think both my ball striking and putting were decent. It could have been better but I am still pretty happy with the way I struck the ball and putted,” said Chang, who heads back to Virginia tomorrow to resume his junior year with Liberty University.
Chang is ranked as Malaysia’s top male amateur and enjoyed a great 2018 season on the US collegiate circuit. He also won the 2018 Singapore Amateur Open.
The US$1 million event was won by Thailand’s Jazz Janewattananond with an impressive 18-under-par total. The 23-year-old shrugged off the challenges of a host of quality players including Sergio Garcia, Paul Casey and Davis Love III to claim his third Asian Tour title.
