Nur Durriyah and Cindy Lee-Pridgen are the leading Malaysians after round 1 of the Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia Qualifying Tournament today.
20-year-old amateur Durriyah shot a first round 1-under par 70 at Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club (KLGCC), one shot better than Lee-Pridgen who carded a 71 on the challenging East Course. The two head into the final round tomorrow topping the Malaysian contingent looking to secure starts in the US$2 million Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia at KLGCC this October 8-11. Jean Chua is the third-best Malaysian with a 1-over par 72.
At the top of the leader board is 2014 qualifier Kanphanitan Muangkhumsakul of Thailand. The 17-year-old carded an opening 69 for a one-shot lead over Durriyah and India’s Aditi Ashok.
The qualifier features 13 players from Malaysia and the remainder of the 24 player field made up of competitors from India, Japan, Korea, Philippines, Thailand and Singapore. The winner along with the top two Malaysian finishers will receive automatic entries into the Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia (in the event that the tournament is won by a Malaysian player, then three Malaysians will qualify).
