Malaysia’s Gavin Kyle Green will make his first appearance as a professional in a European Tour event when he tees off in this week’s BMW International Open in Munich, Germany.
The 21-year-old rookie professional will tee off at 9.20am in Thursday’s first round at Golfclub München Eichenried, paired with Sweden’s Joakim Lagergren and John Parry of England.
Green turned professional earlier this month and has played in two professional events so far, finishing 25th in the Asian Development Tour’s PGM Rahman Putra Championship and 33rd in the Queen’s Cup on the Asian Tour.
The long-hitting Malaysian played in a number of professional events as an amateur, highlighted by his amazing 11-stroke win in the 2014 PGM Vascory Classic on the Asian Development Tour.
Green enjoyed a stellar amateur career on the US college circuit, winning three times in the 2014/2015 season in his senior year with the University of New Mexico (UNM) to take his tally to a record eight for UNM. He won the 2014-15 Mountain West Player of The Year award and was one of 10 semifinalists for the coveted Ben Hogan award, presented annually to the best collegiate golfer in the United States. Green also won the 2014 Malaysian Amateur Golfer of the Year award in the Malaysian Golf Awards.
