The newly-formed Junior Golf Tour of Asia (JGTA) will stage its maiden event this December 20-22 at Bintan Lagoon Resort on the Indonesian island of Bintan.
The JGTA is the sanctioning body in Asia for the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) Performance Based Entry (PBE) Status and plans to stage a series of tournaments in the region. Juniors who play in these events will be able to build their AJGA PBE Status through the JGTA Order of Merit.
“The mission of the JGTA is to provide a regional platform of elite competition for Asia’s rising stars of junior golf that can actually help those players achieve high-level American college golf opportunities, where they can achieve a university education while taking their game to the next level,” said JGTA founder and director Kyi Hla Han, former executive chairman of the Asian Tour.
“By aligning with the AJGA – which has produced the vast majority of college and professional golfers – and giving juniors an opportunity to build their AJGA PBE Status without having to travel to the US, the JGTA strives to make a real difference here in Asia,” he added.
The JGTA Bintan Lagoon Junior Championship is a 54-holestroke play event and will feature talks on admission into leading universities in the USA. The JGTA plans to work with other leading golf clubs in the region to create more events which provide top-class playing environments for golfers aged 12 to 18.
“We are thrilled to be the official host venue for the launch of the JGTA in December. With two international designer courses set against a breathtaking backdrop, the players will be assured of an outstanding time at Bintan Lagoon Resort. The numerous awards and accolades received over the years is a testament to our solid experience in hosting golf tournaments from around the world,” noted Ken Khua, director of golf for Bintan Lagoon Resort.
