Kota Permai retains Malaysia’s Best Golf Course title at World Golf Awards

Kota Permai Golf & Country Club retained the Malaysia’s Best Golf Course award during the 2017 World Golf Awards gala dinner at La Manga Club in Spain on November 25.

The Ross Watson-designed Kota Permai course received the most votes among the 21 Malaysian nominees to claim its third success since the World Golf Awards was inaugurated in 2014. Online voting for this year’s awards ran from March 14 to October 1, 2017.

“It is truly an honour and a privilege to be able to stand tall once again on the celebrated World Golf Awards stage and accept the award for Malaysia’s Best Golf Course for the second year running.  Indeed, such recognition is only conceivable through the priceless effort put in by my team, the invaluable support we have received from our club members, business partners, families and friends, and the strong drive produced through friendly rivalry with our competitors in the hopes of coming out tops,” said Gamuda Land’s senior group general manager of club operations & townships, Tang Meng Loon.

The other nominees were Cinta Sayang Golf Resort, Clearwater Sanctuary Golf Resort, Dalit Bay Golf & Country Club, Damai Laut Golf & Country Club, Glenmarie Golf & Country Club (Valley Course), Horizon Hills Golf & Country Club, Impian Golf & Country Club, Palm Garden Golf Club, Royal Selangor Golf Club (Old Course), Saujana Golf & Country Club (Palm Course), Shan-Shui Golf & Country Club, Staffield Country Resort (Western & Southern Nines), Sungai Long Golf & Country Club, Templer Park Country Club, The Els Club Teluk Datai, The Legends Golf & Country Resort (Jack Nicklaus Course), The Mines Resort & Golf Club, Tiara Melaka Golf & Country Club (Lake & Meadow Nines) and both TPC Kuala Lumpur courses (East Course and West Course).

In the other Malaysian categories, Saujana Resort claimed the Best Malaysian Golf Hotel award while Liberty Golf snared both the Best Inbound and Best Outbound Malaysian Golf Tour Operator accolades.

Golfing legend Jack Nicklaus was voted Golf Course Designer of the Year, while Australian golfer turned commentator  Ian Baker-Finch was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Other prominent winners included TaylorMade (World’s Best Golf Club Brand), St Andrews Golf Club’s Old Course (World’s Best Golf Course) and Portugal (World’s Best Golf Destination).

World Golf Awards managing director Chris Frost said: “The fourth instalment of the World Golf Awards has been the most successful to date, welcoming industry leaders to Murcia, Spain, for a weekend of golf, networking opportunities and our fabulous gala ceremony.
