Kota Permai Golf & Country Club hosted children from the Opah Hasnah Orphanage for the club’s Sinar Ramadan Buka Puasa buffet on June 7, as part of the club’s annual Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative during the fasting month of Ramadan.
Aged between two and 18 years, the children were taken by chartered bus to Kota Permai where they received a warm welcome from the club’s management and committee members. In addition to the scrumptious buffet spread at the Poolside Pavilion, the children were also treated to a magic show and received duit raya and goodie bags.
Kota Permai also presented the orphanage with daily necessities such as rice, vermicelli, milk powder, Milo and canned food to help with the preparations for the upcoming Hari Raya Aidil Fitri celebrations.
“In line with the company’s passion for community building, CSR is our communal obligation to help those less fortunate than us where possible, when possible. With Ramadan being the holy month of fasting, worship and charitable giving, we always look forward to this time of the year for fellowship and different opportunities to give back to those in need,” said Tang Meng Loon, senior group general manager of Gamuda Land Club Operations & Townships.
The Ramadan charity initiative has been part of Kota Permai’s CSR programme since 2008.
Located in Bukit Kuda, the orphanage was founded by Madam Hasnah Mohd Rais – fondly known as Opah Hasnah – after the unfortunate death of both her sons left her with 13 grandchildren to care for. Over the years, she took in many more orphans and children from poor single-parent families, some of whom were abandoned on her doorstep.
Now aged 78, Opah Hasnan runs the orphanage with contributions from the community and a monthly allowance of RM450 from the Malaysian Welfare Department. Those wishing to contribute in cash or kind can contact her at 017-2850576.
