Malaysian Open will take place in 2016

The Malaysian Golf Association (MGA) has assured golf fans that the Malaysian Open will take place in 2016 despite the decision of Maybank not to extend its title sponsorship.

MGA PC Aug 2015“Any sponsor has the right to withdraw once the term is expired. Life must go on. We are thankful to Maybank for being with us since 2006,” said MGA president Tan Sri Mohd Anwar Mohd Nor.

“The 2016 tournament will either be played at the Royal Selangor Golf Club (RSGC) or Kota Permai Golf & Country Club. We will reveal the title sponsor and our partners very soon,” he added.

The 2016 Malaysian Open will be promoted by the World Sport Group, who were selected through an open tender exercise. Other details such as the date of the event and sanctioning platforms were not revealed.

Maybank recently announced that it will be staging its own event at RSGC in February 2016, dubbed the Maybank Championship Malaysia. Co-sanctioned by the Asian Tour and European Tour, the event is promoted by former Malaysian Open promoter GlobalOne.
