Australian Kevin Marques stormed to the 111th Malaysian Amateur Open title with a closing round of three-under-par 68, edging Thailand’s Poom Saksansin by one shot.
On a humid final day at the beachside Royal Pahang Golf Club in Kuantan, MacDonald finished the tournament on 10-under-par 274 to pick up a well-deserved win.
Saksansin made a final hole birdie for a superb closing six-under 65, setting the clubhouse target of nine-under-par and placing pressure on Marques. The 23-year-old Australian responded with a birdie at the 17th to move to 10-under-par and he easily parred the par five 18th to seal the win.
Third round co-leader Taylor MacDonald stumbled to a triple bogey at the 13th hole to fall out of contention, but managed to chip in for eagle at the last to claim third place on 276.
