Nine winners of the Maybank Corporate Challenge – Regional Circuit representing three nations in the South East Asian region have secured their places in the Maybank Corporate Golf Day. To be held in conjunction with the 2013 Maybank Malaysian Open (MMO), the tournament will see them converge at host venue, Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club (KLGCC) on March 25.
An exclusive tournament for privileged Maybank customers, and in its first year for valued regional customers, the tournament saw more than 260 participants contesting one leg each in the Philippines, Singapore and Indonesia.
As a build-up to the 52nd edition of the national Open (March 21 – 24, KLGCC), winners earn a special invitation to experience the 2013 MMO ‘live’ at the exclusive Maybank Hospitality Marquee and a spot at the Maybank Corporate Golf Day.
“The first year of Maybank Corporate Challenge – Regional started off really well. We are glad that we are able to expand our golf development in the region while at the same time, reward our loyal customers who have trusted us in their financial matters,” said Chairman of Maybank Tan Sri Dato’ Megat Zaharuddin Megat Mohd Nor.
He further added that due to the growing prestige of the Maybank Malaysian Open in the region in addition to support from the growing number of regional spectators travelling to Malaysia for the event, it was the right time for the financial institution to introduce the Maybank Corporate Challenge – Regional to these countries, while simultaneously giving a boost to the country’s sports tourism efforts.
The Maybank Corporate Challenge is part of Maybank’s commitment towards the sustainable development of golf in the region through programmes involving juniors, amateurs and professionals, such as the annual Maybank Junior Golf – National Camp and Maybank Junior Golf – Champions Academy.
Since assuming its capacity as title sponsor of the national Open eight years ago, Maybank has successfully attracted world-class players such as Rory McIIroy, Louis Oosthuizen and Martin Kaymer. The 2013 edition is set to feature another field of high-calibre golfers with the announcement of Star Players, namely current World No. 3 Luke Donald as well as No. 6 Charl Schwartzel, Matteo Manassero and Padraig Harrington.
