Greetings members, colleagues and friends! I hope that those who celebrate Christmas had a joyous and festive occasion and, for those who do not, I trust the year-end holiday provided a fun-filled and refreshing break.
It bears mentioning that 2019 was a tremendously productive year for KPGCC, with a plethora of awards being added to our trophy cabinet from the ParGolf People’s Choice Awards, Asian Golf Awards and Top 100 Golf Courses in Asia. Members will be thrilled to hear that KPGCC has entered the big leagues of the Asia-Pacific region, having been bestowed the prestigious Asia Pacific Order of Zenith during the Asian Golf Awards along with the Best Managed Golf Club (2nd runner-up) in Asia Pacific. It was not just the club as a whole that received recognition during the glitzy awards ceremony. Vivien Gnananantham, Lee Chee Keen and Emia Nawarita received awards for Best MarComm Manager of the Year, second runner-Up for Golf Course Superintendent of the Year and second runner-up for Best Caddie of the Year respectively.
Of course, we will not be taking these successes for granted but rather work even harder to not only maintain our elevated status but also to earn even greater acclaim. I would like to convey my heartfelt thanks to all members for your continuous support and hope that you will continue to do so in the future.
Having arrived at the much-hyped about year 2020 and, with that, a whole new decade, KPGCC will continue to forge head and lead the golf industry. This will definitely be a big year for us, with more than a few events to shout about.
Foremost among these events is the Malaysian Open 2020, which makes a historic return in March after a four-year hiatus. Having last hosted the Malaysian Open in 2008, our team is hard at work to ensure that the Club is well-prepared to host such a large scale event with the appropriate care and attention. Please note that the preparations for the event mean that the course will be closed from February 28 to March 9, with alternative playing arrangements being made as necessary.
Passes for the Malaysian Open can be collected at the membership office. For those who would like to volunteer for the event on March 5-8, keep an eye out for further announcements. Thank you for understanding and we look forward to seeing you at the club during tournament week!
As you know, KPGCC is embracing the digital age and will be embarking on a number of projects to keep abreast of modern trends. Follow our Facebook for further details, and do update your email in our records … this will also aid the club’s sustainability efforts as we work towards going paperless.
KPGCC is working hard to create a more dynamic and engaging environment to ensure greater participation in upcoming events, especially among the younger generation. With Chinese New Year fast approaching, we’ll be welcoming back the award-winning Khuan Loke Lion Dance Troupe on February 2 for another amazing performance!
Gong Xi Fa Cai and Happy New Year to everyone … have a prosperous, joyful and healthy 2020!
