Malaysia’s Natasha Andrea Oon and San José State team-mate Abegail Arevalo have been have been named Mountain West Co-Women’s Golfers of the Week for tournaments on the US collegiate circuit through February 26.
Freshman Oon shared medalist honours with senior Arevalo as the duo led their team to a first-place finish in The Gold Rush at Old Ranch Country Club in Seal Beach, California, two days ago. The Spartans, as the San José State team is known, finished on nine-over 873 to take the title by three shots from Georgia.
Oon put herself in contention with an excellent second round 67 and began the final round in fifth place. She closed with a solid 70 to tie Arevalo on two-under-par 214. This was the Malaysian’s second collegiate individual win in just six starts.
Last September, Oon was named Mountain West Golfer of the Month for winning the individual title in her first collegiate tournament at the Minnesota Invitational. She won by six shots to help the Spartans to the team title and followed that up with a T11 finish at the Coeur d’Alene Collegiate.
