Olympic golf 'live' on Astro

Golf fans can tune in to Astro’s dedicated Rio 2016 Olympic channels to catch today’s first round of the men’s golf competition ‘live’. The golf telecast begins at 4.30pm Malaysian time on channels 769 (SD) and 789 (HD).

Malaysians Gavin Green and Danny Chia are teeing off at 6.52pm and 7.25pm (Malaysian time) respectively at the Reserva de Marapendi course in Rio de Janeiro.

Green is playing with Thailand’s Kiradech Aphibarnrat and Thomas Pieters of Belgium, while Chia is flighted with Chile’s Felipe Aguilar and Denmark’s Soren Kjeldsen.

Chia has described the Gil Hanse-designed course as a links-style layout but with soft greens and long, especially when playing into the wind.

Apart from Olympic glory, the Malaysian players will have substantial Official World Golf Ranking points to play for. Chia is currently ranked 242nd while Green is not far behind in 289th place.
