Korea’s So Yeon Ryu has claimed the Rolex World No. 1 ranking for the first time following her two-shot win in the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship presented by P&G.
“I always dreamed about it, I cannot believe it! This is going to my first week as the No. 1 player in the world. I know it’s going to be a lot of pressure but I know I can handle a lot of different things,” said the 26-year-old.
Ryu turned in a stunning performance at Pinnacle Country Club, carding a tournament record 10-under par 61 in the second round and finishing on 18-under par which is also a tournament record. She took over the World No 1 spot from Thailand’s Ariya Jutanugarn, who did not play in the Walmart event and was only at the top of the rankings for two weeks.
Malaysia’s Kelly Tan missed the cut and dropped six spots down the rankings into 251st place.
