Shanshan Feng became the first golfer from China of either gender to occupy the top of the world rankings with her victory in the Blue Bay LPGA on home soil.
The one-shot win over Thailand’s Moriya Jutanugarn at the Jian Lake Blue Bay Golf Club on Hainan Island was Feng’s second title in a row following the Toto Japan Classic and third of the season.
“I’m really, really excited and very proud of myself. I finished first in China so I actually claimed the number one ranking in front of all the people at home,” said Feng, who replaced Korea’s Park Sung Hyun at the top of the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings after the latter had spent just one week as No 1.
“I just want 2017 to keep going! A never-ending 2017, that would be great,” quipped Feng.
