Singapore’s Marc Ong carded a closing four-under-par 68 to win the Malaysian Amateur Open at Kelab Golf Sarawak.
Ong finished on 13-under-par 275, five shots ahead of runner-up Harrison Endycott of Australia who closed with an even-par 72.
Taking a one-shot lead into the final round, Ong finished strongly with four birdies on the back nine to seal a comfortable victory.
“My short game was really good all week,” said the 19-year-old. “My game feels really good right now. I’m just going to try and keep it up and get ready for the SEA Games in June.”
“I hope I can carry the momentum to Saujana,” added Ong, who will start as one of the favourites for the upcoming MPI Saujana Amateur Championship. “To be able to win back-to-back titles would be awesome.”
Low Khai Jei was the best Malaysian in joint ninth place on 4-over-par 292.
