The six – Gavin Kyle Green, Arie Ahmad Fauzi, Low Khai Jei, Abel Tham, Mohammad Afif Mohd Radzi and Solomon Emilio Rosidin, were specially selected based on their outstanding performances on both the local and international golfing scenes.
“These amateurs are strengthening their game skills and confidence every time they are given the opportunity to be part of a major golf event such as Maybank Malaysian Open where they are sharing the field with great professionals. We are glad that this avenue is made available to them,” said John Eu, Chief Executive Officer of event promoter GlobalOne.
Meanwhile, the Malaysian Golf Association’s (MGA) President Admiral (R) Tan Sri Dato’ Setia Mohd Anwar Mohd Nor expressed his hopes for the nominated amateurs to fully absorb the experience of being part of the prestigious event: “MGA is proud of the dedication and hard work these young golfers have put in. This is another valuable opportunity for them to enhance their skills further.”
The six young hopefuls now complete the 22 slots accorded to the Malaysian contingent, adding their names to the toasted roster of national heroes which include Maybank Golf Ambassadors Danny Chia and Shaaban Hussin, 2012 PGM – Maybank Tour Players Champion Akhmal Tarmizee, PGAM Order of Merit’s top four – Nicholas Fung, Sukree Othman, R. Nachimuthu and Airil Rizman, winners of the recently concluded National Qualifiers – Sasidaran Muthiah, Kemarol Baharin, Mohd Hanafiah Mohd Jamil and P.Gunasegaran, together with GlobalOne’s nominated golfers – Md Rashid Ismail, S. Murthy, S. Sivachandhran, Azman Basharuddin and Kenneth De Silva.
