Team Peninsular won the inaugural Genting Challenge Team Matchplay with a comfortable 19-13 victory over Team Borneo at Awana Genting Highlands Golf & Country Club today.
The mixed gender team matchplay event was a great success and a huge hit with the players, despite problems with the weather. Thunderstorms resulted in the abandonment of the afternoon mixed foursomes matches yesterday and only three singles matches were completed today due to thick fog. Each of the abandoned matches were deemed as halves.
Each team was represented by eight boys and eight girls who contested eight fourballs, eight mixed foursomes and 16 singles matches.
“Despite the weather problems, the inaugural Genting Challenge was a big hit with players on both sides,” said SportExcel executive director C. Sivanandan. “They enjoyed the mixed team matchplay format immensely and the Awana course was a really great venue.
“Our utmost appreciation to Genting Malaysia Berhad for their support and we look forward to building on the success of this year’s event.”
