The teams for the first Prudential Junior Causeway Trophy at Laguna National were announced today, with the Malaysian and Singapore sides each comprising 12 under-16 golfers – six male and six female.
To be played at the World Classic Course at Laguna National Golf & Country Club on June 18, the one-day Junior Ryder Cup-style fixture takes place before the professionals compete in the Prudential Causeway Trophy 2014 from June 20-22.
Led by the senior Prudential Causeway Trophy team captains, Mohd Said bin Abdul Latif for Singapore and CM Chong for Malaysia, the teams will play 12 matchplay singles. Each junior will be assigned a golfing mentor from the respective senior team to accompany them on their practice rounds and provide one-to-one coaching.
Malaysian team captain Chong commented: “I can’t wait to captain this young team against team Singapore. The Laguna National World Classic course is known as one of Asia’s toughest courses, so for our junior players, it’s an honour to be invited to play here and, at the same time, to represent Malaysia.”
