Wilson’s new C200 irons are being hailed as a true innovation that will change the way irons will be judged.
The visible FLX Face utilises ‘Power Holes’ wrapped entirely around the face to increase face flex at impact, thus increasing the amount of time the ball gathers energy before it launches down the fairway. The result is more distance with feel and forgiveness.
FLX Face Technology: Wilson’s new technology minimises contact points between the thin face and clubhead for maximum face flex upon impact and more distance. Contact is limited to only 24% of the perimeter as 76% of the topline, toe and sole perimeter is freed from contact to the body.
Power Holes: Allows the face to flex upon impact for extreme distance. Featured in all C200 irons, it also allows mass to be redistributed low, back and to the heel/toe to increase forgiveness and optimise launch conditions. The centre of gravity (CG) is moved back by 0.030” to 0.060” due to the Power Holes, while the MOI is increased by about 7%.
TE031 Urethane: Fills Power Holes and provides vibration dampening properties for improved sound and feel. There is a notable improvement in sound and feel with the urethane-filled Power Holes.
According to the Rules of Golf, the clubhead must be generally plain in shape. Features that are deemed to be in breach of this requirement therefore are not permitted and these include holes through face and holes through the head – the urethane thus also makes the C200 a USGA/R&A conforming club.
