Malaysia’s Kelly Tan carded a career-low 10-under-par 62 to take the second round lead in the Symetra Tour’s Guardian Championship on the Senator Course at Capitol Hill in Alabama.

Tan nailed eight birdies and an eagle in a flawless performance to also set the tournament 18-hole record. She lies on 10-under-par and will take a three-shot lead over six players into the third and final round, well-placed to add to her first international win at the Florida’s Natural Charity Classic in March.

“Shooting 10-under, there’s nothing really to complain about and I’ve been playing good golf recently,” noted Tan, who is playing on the LPGA’s secondary circuit with the aim of regaining her card on the main tour.

“The only difference is my putts fell today and that’s the reason for this. At the beginning of this season, one of my goals was to play consistent golf and think I have, which helps. Spending four years on the LPGA Tour and then the past few part-time has taught me to stay patient and in the game,” added the 25-year-old, who hails from Batu Pahat in Johor.

Tan tees of at 9.09 am (10.09 pm Malaysian time) in today’s final round with Gigi Stoll of the USA and Spain’s Fatima Fernandez Cano.

Tan is an ambassador for The Els Club Malaysia and is also sponsored by Mazda Malaysia and J.Lindeberg.
