Malaysia’s Gavin Green will be adopting an aggressive approach in today’s third round of the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship in the hope of making the 54-hole cut.

Green carded a second round 73 at Carnoustie to add to his opening 69 at St Andrew’s to lie in T121 position on two-under-par. He tees off at 9.55am today (4.55pm Malaysian time) at Kingsbarns.

“I really did’t make anything today … the course isn’t that difficult. I hit a bunch of fairways but I just couldn’t convert any putts. It was frustrating and I’m really, really disappointed,” said Green, who is chasing a top 50 spot on the European Tour’s Race To Dubai (RTD) rankings in order to make it to the season-ending DP World Tour Championship.

“I’m look forward to the third round and I know I’ll need to shoot something low to make Sunday … it’s pretty much a do-or-die situation so I’m going to come out aggressive and hopefully start with a few birdies. I’ve played Kingsbarns a couple of times. If you hit it well, it’s possible to get a low score there. Hopefully something goes well for me,” added Green, currently in 55th place in the RTD rankings.

However, the 25-year-old is enjoying his second outing in the unique tournament, which features professionals playing alongside amateurs who include celebrities from the sports and entertainment worlds. The top 60 professionals and top 20 pro-am teams make it to the final round at the Old Course, St Andrews.

“This is a great event. It’s fun that you get to play with amateurs. It does get quite long sometimes, which can be good if you’re not playing so well because it slows you down a little bit,” noted Gavin, who is struggling with a persistent wrist injury.

“My wrist is hurting me a little bit. It’s an ongoing injury but I’ve been trying to work at it. Whatever rest I can get, I’ll use it to hopefully heal the wrist … but it’s going to take a while I think,” he added.
