Malaysian No 1 Gavin Green will end his 2019 season with two events in Asia, one at home and the other close to home.
Green will tee-off in next week’s PGM Maybank ADT Championship at Saujana Golf & Country Club, playing on a sponsor’s invitation in the Asian Development Tour event, and will round off the year with the Asian Tour’s season-ending Thailand Masters at Phoenix Gold Golf & Country Cub in Pattaya on December 19-22.
The big-hitting Malaysian finished 69th on the 2019 European Tour Race To Dubai (RTD) standings with a stroke average of 70.65, a marked improvement over his maiden season in 2018 when he finished 84th and averaged 71.53.
Following a T21 finish in last week’s Nedbank Championship in South Africa, Green missed out on the European Tour’s US$8 million season finale, the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai which was limited to the top 50 players on the RTD rankings.
“I was a little disappointed that I didn’t make it to Dubai as that was one of my goals for the season. I was quite close, a lot closer than last year,” said Green. “However, on the positive side, I am now more familiar with what I need to do for next year.
“2019 was definitely an improvement from 2018 and I am pretty happy with my game overall. It was good.”
Green, who turns 26 on December 28, added that he will continue to focus on the European Tour in 2020.
“I just need to keep working on my game and keep fine-tuning it. I’d like to spend a bit more time with my coach, Chris O’Connell. I know that there are some areas that need improvement and I’ll focus on that,” said the 2017 Asian Tour Order of Merit winner.
In between the two events, Green will be conducting a junior clinic at Saujana on December 14. Open to all junior golfers aged seven to 16, the Gavin Green & Friends Short-Game Clinic is supported by Maybank and the Maybank Championship. Places are limited.
