Jazz Janewattananond’s victory in the Asian Tour’s season-ending Thailand Masters last week pushed the Thai star’s earnings for the season past the US$1 million mark.
The US$90,000 winner’s cheque from his fourth victory of the year took Jazz’s total earnings on the 2019 Asian Tour to US$1,058,524, well ahead of second-placed Scott Hend of Australia with US$545,419.
Jazz, 24, had already secured the Asian Tour’s Order of Merit title in early December when his lead atop the Habitat For Humanity standings became unassailable following Hend’s decision to skip the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open.
However, Jazz was not not done yet and clinched back-to-back victories in the last two events of the year, preceding his Thailand Masters win with a second triumph at the BNI Indonesian Masters the week before.
The late season surge propelled Jazz into into the top 50 of the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR), earning him a start in April’s Masters at Augusta National. He is currently in 40th position on the OWGR, making him the No 1 Thai and fourth-ranked Asian player in the world behind Japan’s Hideki Matsuyama (No 21)and Shugo Imahira (No 31), and Korea’s Sungjae Im (No 34).
Two Malaysians finished in the top 60 of the Asian Tour Order of Merit – Nicholas Fung in 41st place with US$81,403 and Ben Leong in 48th spot with US$62,936.
