TPC Kuala Lumpur is paying out a total of RM80,000 to help its 140 part-time caddies get by during the Movement Control Order (MCO). The club’s members have also pitched in by making their own contributions, which will distributed to the caddies.
The part-timers rely solely on caddie fees and tips, which is now non-existent due to the club’s shutdown until April 14. They will also receive a RM220 voucher to shop for necessities at Tesco outlets.
TPC Kuala Lumpur also has 37 full-time caddies on its payroll, who will continue to receive their monthly salaries during the MCO.
In a message to members, the club noted: “Following the Movement Control Order and the club’s temporary closure until 14 April 2020 to contain the Covid-19 outbreak, the 140 local part-time caddies who have been living hand to mouth are currently without any means of income. The other 37 full-time caddies, however, are getting paid on a monthly basis.
“As a club that cares for the community, TPC Kuala Lumpur empathises with our caddies and therefore intend to compensate them equitably for their loss of income. The payment which amounts to about RM80,000 will be ready by 31 March 2020.”
Established in 1991, TPC Kuala Lumpur is one of the leading golf clubs in the region and boasts two award-winning layouts in its West and East courses. The club has hosted numerous high-profile events including the CIMB Classic, Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia and Maybank Malaysian Open.
