Tiger Woods will make his long-awaited return to the PGA Tour in next week’s Memorial Tournament presented by Nationwide at Muirfield Village in Columbus, Ohio.
This will be the 15-time Major winner’s first PGA Tour start since the Genesis Invitational in February. Woods will be gunning for his sixth Memorial Tournament win and 83rd PGA Tour title, breaking out of a tie with Sam Snead on the all-time wins list.
Woods’ last taste of competitive golf was at the made-for-TV Capital One’s The Match: Champions for Charity on May 24, when he and former NFL star Peyton Manning beat Phil Mickelson and Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady at Medalist Golf Club.
“I’m looking forward to playing in the @MemorialGolf next week. I’ve missed going out and competing with the guys and can’t wait to get back out there,” Woods noted on Twitter.
Woods has played in the Memorial on 17 occasions, winning the tournament in 1999, 2000, 2001, 2009 and 2012. He has never missed the cut and was also a member of the US Presidents Cup team that won at Muirfield Village in 2013.
Currently 41st in the FedExCup standings and 14th in the Official World Golf Rankings, Woods made only two PGA Tour starts in 2020 before the Covid-19 shutdown, citing stiffness in his surgically-fused back.
