Gavin Green powered his way to a joint 11th place finish in the European Tour’s Celtic Classic, closing with a superb eight-under-par 63.
The long-hitting Malaysian No 1 caught fire with eight birdies in a flawless final round including his last two holes, finishing on 12-under-par 272 (70-69-70-63), six shots behind winner Sam Horsfield at The Celtic Manor Resort in Wales. This was only Gavin’s second start in his return to action on the abbreviated 2020 European Tour’s UK swing, following a missed cut at last week’s English Championship.
Meanwhile Malaysian ladies No 1 Kelly Tan also put together a strong finish in the UK with a closing 69 in the Aberdeen Standard Investments Scottish Ladies Open, chalking up a T29 finish on three-over-par at the Renaissance Club. Stacy Lewis won the tournament in a four-way playoff with a total of five-under-par.
Next up for Gavin is this week’s ISPS Handa Wales Open, also at Celtic Manor, while Kelly makes her 13th Major start in the AIG Women’s Open at Royal Troon.
Gavin is currently ranked 30th in the European Tour’s season-long Race To Dubai rankings, while Kelly lies in 22nd place on the LPGA’s Race To CME Globe.
