Malaysia’s golf darling Kelly Tan now has an official darling of her own in long-time Canadian boyfriend Dustin Lattery following the couple’s engagement yesterday.
Dustin, who owns businesses in the hair-colour and interior design industries, proposed to Kelly on the iconic 7th hole of Pebble Beach Golf Links in California. They had been dating for five years.
Needless to say, an overwhelmed Kelly accepted without hesitation.
“He proposed at Pebble Beach’s 7th hole, the most iconic par-three in the world! We both hit our tee shots and I missed the green and was in one of the bunkers; I hit my shot out of the bunker and Dusty asked me, what’s in the hole … and I thought it was just something to stop the flag from flapping around!” Kelly shared.
“And the next thing as I turned around, he was already on his knee! It was a special moment we shared together and it was a perfect day at the perfect location … a day I will never forget!
“I was totally surprised and so overwhelmed by the whole situation! I said YES!”
The engagement was the icing on the cake of a stellar year for the 27-year-old Malaysian ladies No 1 despite the abbreviated LPGA schedule, following two seasons playing mainly on the second-tier Symetra Tour. Kelly finished in a career-high 37th position on the tour’s Race To CME Globe rankings, after recording five top-20s and just two missed cuts in 15 starts. Her season was highlighted by a T13 performance at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship which was the best ever finish by a Malaysian in a Major.
