World No 1 and reigning Masters champion Dustin Johnson is among a host of leading players who have given the thumbs up to the new adidas ZG21, a lightweight spiked shoe with zero compromises on performance.
“I couldn’t believe how light these were when I put them on. I’ve worn adidas shoes my entire career and it’s amazing how the team was able to reduce the weight so much while still keeping the great comfort, traction and stability,” said Johnson.
Johnson first used the ZG21 en route to a T11 finish in last month’s Sentry Tournament of Champions at Kapalua in Hawaii. “Players of all skill levels will benefit from what ZG21 has to offer when they put them on and head to the course,”noted the 25-time PGA Tour winner.
2020 PGA Championship winner Collin Morikawa observed that the ZG21’s lightweight feature and superb stability served him well on the hilly and long Kapalua course.
“We walk a ton over the course of a tournament and for me, what stands out the most is how comfortable they are,” said Morikawa, a three-time PGA Tour winner who was the world’s top-ranked amateur in May 2018.. “I wore them all week at Kapalua, which is one of, if not the longest walk we have all year, and my feet felt great.
“Throw in how light they are with the traction and stability you get, and it easily makes ZG21 one of the best shoes adidas has available.”
Five-time LPGA Tour winner Danielle Kang joined the chorus of ZG21 enthusiasts, describing the new shoe as having “everything you need in a golf shoe”.
“I’ve worn spiked golf shoes in competition ever since I started playing, so I was really excited when I heard about ZG21. It just has everything you need in a golf shoe,” stressed Kang, who has one Major title to her name in the 2017 KPMG Women’s PGA Championship.
“Usually when shoes are too light or the focus is more on stability, etc, you have to sacrifice on certain areas of the shoe. Not with this one. ZG21 takes it to another level because of how light and comfortable they are without losing the traction and stability we all need when we play,” added the current World No 5.
Boasting a clean, fast and sleek design, the ZG21 is packed with new technology:
LIGHTSTRIKE
A first in golf, this cushioning is 40 percent lighter than any EVA foam in the market while also providing shock absorption and quick recovery – perfect for golf where stability through the swing is critical. It’s been used in other sports like basketball and tennis and, when coupled with BOOST cushioning, provides lightweight comfort and stability.
ZG21 is adidas Golf’s lightest spiked footwear model to feature BOOST cushioning, up to 20 percent lighter than comparable spiked models previously in the brand’s range.
SPRINTSKIN
A lightweight and waterproof (one-year warranty) four-layer upper that combines innovative textiles and polyurethane films for breakthrough performance.
ULTRA-LIGHT STABILITY FIN
A new lightweight and durable TPU insert in the lateral sidewall that offers increased lateral stability and a locked-in feel where it’s most needed.
SWINGPLANE TRACTION
Using heat-map studies, adidas Golf designers targeted the areas and placed the maximum amount of traction where it’s needed most. The new ZG21 outsole features an ultra-thin TPU construction, six strategically placed cleats and a new crescent moon-shaped secondary lug to optimise grip, support and performance while ultimately reducing weight.
MODELS
ZG21 is available in four models: men’s laced, men’s and women’s BOA, and a laced offering for junior golfers.
The two BOA models feature the new BOA Fit System, a first in the sport. The Y-strap design wraps around the foot, creating a secure fit over the instep while providing flexibility in the toe box.
The men’s ZG21 BOA is also the first golf shoe on the market to feature Li2, a sleek, low-profile dial platform that modulates tension when and where needed, quickly and effortlessly.
