Messages of support have poured in for Tiger Woods on social media following the golf legend’s car accident yesterday. The 15-time Major winner was involved in a single vehicle incident near Los Angeles while driving a Genesis GV80 SUV and suffered multiple leg injuries.

Jack Nicklaus, whose record of 18 Majors Woods is chasing, tweeted: “Barbara and I just heard about Tiger’s accident, and like everyone else, we are deeply concerned. We want to offer him our heartfelt support and prayers at this difficult time. Please join us in wishing Tiger a successful surgery and all the best for a full recovery.”

World No 3 Justin Thomas, a close friend of Woods, posted: “Sick to my stomach right now. Praying for @TigerWoods and hoping for an amazing recovery. Thinking about his entire family and team, as all of us are sending our best wishes. We know TW is a fighter. Get well soon Tiger!”

Ladies golf legend Annika Sorenstam shared: “My heart sank when I heard about @TigerWoods’ accident. Our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family. I wish him a full and speedy recovery.”

Former US president Barack Obama posted on his social media: “Sending my prayers to @TigerWoods and his family tonight — here’s to a speedy recovery for the GOAT of golf. If we’ve learned anything over the years, it’s to never count Tiger out.”

Woods, 45, was in Los Angeles as host for the Genesis Invitational, won by Max Homa. He underwent back surgery for the fifth time late last year and was working his way towards a competitive return.

According to a statement on Woods’ official Twitter account uploaded early this morning, he is awake and responsive following surgery on his lower right leg and ankle.
