Retail chain Transview Golf showed its compassionate and caring side by raising more than RM24,000 for veteran professional golfer S. Murthy, who underwent surgery for brain cancer early this year.
The money was raised from Transview’s ‘Because We Care’ campaign at all its retail outlets nationwide from February 23 to March 23. The campaign saw selected ranges of PG shirts that normally retail at RM239 being sold for RM100 each, with RM20 going to Murthy and his family.
Murthy, 50, has been a Team PG ambassador since 2009. ‘PG’ stands for Performance Gear, which is Transview’s in-house apparel and accessory brand.
“When we heard the news on Murthy, we were overwhelmed as the news of his surgery was very sudden. However, we are glad that he has had a successful surgery and is on the road to recovery now,” said Kevin Yeap, business manager of Transview Golf.
“During the month-long campaign running at all Transview Golf outlets nationwide, we saw many of our regular customers not only purchase the PG shirts in bulk, but some also donated cash anonymously to help out with this charity drive for Murthy. A total sum of RM24,060 was collected during this campaign and the payment had been made to Murthy to help with his recovery.”
Murthy expressed his gratitude to Transview Golf, saying: “My wife and I are truly grateful for the thoughtfulness of Transview Golf for having created this campaign specially for me. It’s been a tough year so far coping with my ailment as well as this pandemic, but I’m trying my best to stay strong keeping up with all my medical follow-ups and physiotherapy treatments.
“I also want to take this opportunity to thank all whom had contributed towards this campaign and mainly to Transview Golf for all the years of support towards my professional career as well as during my hard times. I remember back when my house was burnt down in 2017 … they had also played a part in the charity golf that was organised for me. I’m fortunate to have such a retail giant having me as part of their Team PG and having my back. Words can’t express my gratitude,” he added.
One of the most naturally gifted golfers in Malaysia, Murthy hails from Banting, Selangor, and is a multiple winner on the local professional circuit. He also represented Malaysia while an amateur in the early to mid-1990s.
