Prizes galore at the 4th Callaway Championship

The fourth edition of the Callaway Championship was played recently at the Saujana G&CC’s Cobra Course. Played on Stableford System 36 format, the event was over-subscribed but only a maximum of 120 participants were allowed to participate as per the SOPs set out by the Malaysian Golf Association (MGA) for all golf events in the country.

“We are truly honoured that our Callaway Championship was fully subscribed an hour into opening its registration on Facebook. We definitely did not expect this marvellous response amidst the pandemic going on in the country, but I guess golfers were excited as we had to give this event a go last year when the Covid-19 hit the world. In fact, for this event this year, it was really quite a last minute decision to have it and once all was approved a month before the event, we never looked back,” said Mr Kevin Yeap, Country Manager of Callaway Golf Malaysia.

Prizes Galore

According to Yeap, the fourth edition had the biggest ever budget allocated to it. The equipment company prepared 110 lucky draw prizes worth RM150,000 consisting of Callaway accessories, Callaway golf balls, Callaway golf shoes and a total of up to 50 pieces of Callaway golf equipment.  Aside from the top five main prizes for Medal A &B, every single participant went home with a prize.

Attractive Hole-In-One prizes were also offered at all the Par 3’s. They included RM10,000 worth of Callaway products as the prize at Hole 2, two pieces of Callaway EPIC Speed Fairway wood worth RM3998 at Hole 5, a set of Callaway Apex 21 Irons worth RM6299 at Hole 12, and lastly at Hole 16 a Sure-To-Win prize of a Callaway Epic Speed Driver worth RM3299 at Hole 16.

In the A Medal category, Steven Tan (8) posted two birdies and an eagle to emerge champion at 39 points winning on countback over his competitor Mohamad Yusli Askandar (9). Coming in third at 38 points was Jung Youngguk (5) winning on countback over John Lim (10) and Anushka Gayan (12).

Steven Tan…A Medal champion

The highlight of the day was the lucky draw session, where a total of 110 prizes were given out to those who did not win any prizes. For the Sure-To-Win at Hole 16, Halim Zainal became the brand-new owner of a new Callaway 21 Epic Speed Driver worth RM3,299. However, the most elated golfer for the night was John Tan Chuang Sen who took home the grand lucky draw prize – a Callaway X Forged CB Iron set worth RM8,165, on top of the Callaway golf bag that he had won earlier as his lucky draw prize.
