Junior talent on show at SportExcel’s event at Tasik Puteri

The third leg of the UUMISM-SportExcel Malaysian Junior Golf Tour that teed off at the Tasik Puteri Golf Club & Resorts set a new record for the competition in terms of the large number  of juniors that participated in the event. 169 junior golfers competed in 14 categories divided into various age groups ranging from six to 18.

Ammar Aiman posted rounds of 81-81 for a total of 162 to emerge the champion in the Boys 15-18 age group. In the Boys 13-14 category, winner Chan Jun Han scored 82-83 for a total of 165. In the Girls 15-18 category, Dalia Nurshukrra carded scores of 92-86 for a total of 178 to emerge a winner. Siti Nur Husna Aina won the Girls 13-14 category with scores of 84-82 for a total of 166.

The tour comprising 12 legs offers an opportunity for the juniors to showcase their talent and earn golf scholarships at University Utara Malaysia International Secondary School Melaka (UUMISM), Ayer Keroh, Malacca, to pursue academic and golf excellence.

The tour, organised annually by SportExcel, has raised the standards of juniors in the country. Top juniors from the tour are selected to participate in international competitions under the Hills Golf Academy, Gold Coast, Australia’s Asia Pacific Junior Golf Series Reciprocal Programme. In addition, there are about 50 junior golfers pursuing their studies in the U.S. through scholarships offered by U.S. colleges, allowing juniors to pursue golfing excellence.
