The Maybank Championship 2023 will see a young and star-studded field of Malaysia’s most talented golfers, all eager to unleash their drives and compete with some of the top golfers in the world.

Among the Malaysian golfing elite ready to take on the challenge are Alyaa Abdul Ghany, Natasha Andrea Oon, and Ashley Lau. Another historic moment for the sport in Malaysia is the inclusion of amateur golfers Ng Jing Xuen and Jeneath Wong to the playing field. They will be joining Olympian Kelly Tan, who will be teeing off at the prestigious West Course of Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club (KLGCC).

Bringing excitement to the greens, California-based Alyaa Abdul Ghany, a rising star on the golf horizon, will swing her way into the Maybank Championship from 26 to 29 October at KLGCC. The 24-year-old’s impressive victories, including the 2020 Australian Masters of the Amateurs Championship, have placed the Johorean on the radar of golf enthusiasts worldwide.

Joining her is Natasha Andrea Oon, a burgeoning sensation in golf. Since turning professional in 2022, her profound passion for the game radiates through each shot, setting the stage for captivating moments on the fairways. With an impressive track record of multiple top-three finishes this year, the San Jose resident promises to add an extraordinary touch to the all-star line-up.

Breaking records and driving her way to the top, the young and talented Malaysian golf prodigy, Ng Jing Xuen, is set to make history by participating for the first time at the prestigious Maybank Championship. At 15, Ng created history as Malaysia’s first gold medallist in a women’s individual golf at the SEA Games, ending the nation’s 30-year gold medal wait in this category. With her sights firmly set on turning pro within the next two years, her attendance at this year’s Ladies Professional Golfers Association (LPGA) Tour-sanctioned tournament marks a significant milestone in her burgeoning career.

In anticipation of this exciting golfing spectacle, Datuk Khairussalleh Ramli, Maybank Group President & CEO, expressed, “As we evolve the Maybank Championship this year, we are committed to propelling golf’s growth in Malaysia and beyond by using this platform for a purpose and that is to elevate the next generation of golfers for the future of the sport. This gives the young athletes a chance to prove their tenacity, commitment, and perseverance.”

Sarawakian golfer Ashley Lau, known for her powerful drives and incredible short game, will showcase her skills after her impressive solo-third finish at the 2022 Ann Arbor’s Road to the LPGA powered by A2 Sports on the Epson Tour.

Linking with her will be the dynamic Jeneath Wong, who plays in Melbourne. With her remarkable talent and impressive achievements, this young 18-year-old sensation is set to turn this tournament into a captivating spectacle. Having secured consecutive victories in the Victorian Girls Junior Amateur and The Riversdale Cup in 2020, the 53rd-ranked world amateur is undoubtedly a player to watch closely.

The contingent will be fully bolstered by Kelly Tan, as previously announced. Tan’s recent accomplishments include finishing as a runner-up in the 2022 Dow Great Lakes Bay Invitational and winning the 2019 Florida’s Natural Charity Classic. As a seasoned veteran in the field, Tan emerges as the one to watch, poised to inspire and lead her fellow junior local golfers by example, demonstrating the art of golf mastery at its finest. She is also Maybank’s ASEAN Ambassador.
