The 5th Tourism Selangor Golf Tournament 2023, organised by Tourism Selangor and graced by the presence of Dato’ Sri Amirudin Shari, the Chief Minister of Selangor, unfolded at the prestigious Seri Selangor Golf Club. This golfing extravaganza brought together over 120 participants representing government agencies, private sectors, and media outlets.
Farould Mustaffa, the Manager of Event and Focus Tourism at Tourism Selangor, highlighted the significance of the event. He emphasised that Selangor boasts the highest number of golf courses in Malaysia, totalling an impressive 29, contributing to the state’s thriving tourism sector. The Tourism Selangor Golf Tournament, an annual fixture since 2019, serves as a platform for various stakeholders—government, private, and public—to foster collaboration and mutual growth.
“Selangor has consistently led in Gross Domestic Product (GDP) contribution with 23.7% since 2015. This success is attributed to robust infrastructure development, well-constructed highways, top-notch sports facilities, and internationally acclaimed golf courses,” Mustaffa stated.
The 5th Selangor Tourism Golf Tournament not only attracted participants locally but also garnered attention on the international stage. With the recent announcement of Visit Selangor Year 2025, the focus on sports tourism is expected to intensify, solidifying Selangor’s position as the most visited state by domestic visitors for two consecutive years, with a remarkable 22 million visitors in 2022.
Adding vibrancy to the tournament, strategic partnerships were forged with the Petaling Jaya City Council and the Malaysia Golf Association. Eighteen sponsors, including prominent entities like Selangor Menteri Besar Corporation, CIMB Bank, Tenaga Nasional Berhad, and others, played pivotal roles in supporting the event. This collaborative effort contributed to making the 5th Tourism Selangor Golf Tournament a resounding success, echoing Selangor’s commitment to excellence in sports tourism.
