Indonesia’s Kristina Natalia Yoko take opening round lead at Maybank Championship ASEAN Qualifier

The inaugural Maybank Championship ASEAN Qualifier at the Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club (KLGCC)  saw a 35-player field, comprising both professionals and amateurs, make an exciting start at the renowned West Course.

Indonesian amateur Kristina Natalia Yoko captured the opening round lead posting a score of four-under 68. In second place was Chayanit Wangmahaporn of Thailand, who managed a three-under-par 69, while Malaysian amateur Ng Jing Xuen was third, after a round of two-under-par 70. Malaysian professional Jocelyn Chee carded a 1-under-par 71 to lie fourth.

Two experienced Malaysian professionals, Genevieve Ling and Michelle Koh, carded matching even-par 72s to be in joint fifth position.

Among other leading players in the field are Thailand’s Wassawan Sangkapong and Singapore’s amateur Chen Xingtong who had an impressive finish in last month’s Singapore Open Amateur Championship. Both players scored one-over-par 73,

 Two Malaysian players, Liyana Durisic and Zulaikah Nasser, took the opportunity to turn professional at the ASEAN Qualifier as they strive to take their golfing careers to new heights. Liyana Durisic who shot a one-over-par 73, matching her compatriots Geraldine Wong and Nur Durriyah Damian.

The stakes are high in the two-day qualifier which ends on Wednesday, as they compete for five coveted spots in the US$3 million LPGA Maybank Championship set to take place from October 24-27, 2024.

Tickets for the tournament in October are available for purchase with options including RM38 Day Pass, RM68 Weekend Pass, or RM88 Season Pass. Children under 12 enter for free.
