The second Johor Open Golf Championship at Horizon Hills Golf & Country Club organised by the Johor Golf Association (JGA), saw South Korean Allen Miyeon Kim claim the men’s title, while Johor’s own Pang Hee Jie triumphed in the women’s division.

Allen secured the men’s championship with rounds of 75-71-73, ending the 54-hole competition at three-over 219, an eight-stroke lead.

Reflecting on his performance, Allen said, “The tournament was a big challenge with the course playing so hard, but at the same time, it was also a good test of the abilities and skills of the field. I’m pleased with my game, as I kept it at a level where I was consistent.” The Seoul native, a four-handicapper, kept his emotions in check despite challenging green speeds reaching 11.5 on the Stimpmeter.

In the women’s event, Hee Jie, a two-handicapper and member of Tanjong Puteri Golf Club, captured the title with a six-over 227, outpacing the field by nine strokes.

“I’m so very happy and excited to have won it,” she shared. “The course played really tough the whole week, and improving on how I did last year is very satisfying.”

Runner-up Wang Enxi of China, a 14-year-old with a six-handicap, relied heavily on her putting to navigate the swift greens. “It was a big task,” Wang said, “but it was a good, tough challenge, and I’m happy with how I played.”

Malaysia’s Mavis Chua took third with a 248 total, noting, “I made a few mistakes that I should not have. I’ll use this event to learn and hope it will make me a better player.”

The tournament, which carries World Amateur Golf Ranking points, had a full field of 110 players, with a waiting list and notable international representation, including players from Australia, China, Japan, Myanmar, Singapore, and South Korea.

Boo further emphasised the association’s commitment to golf development and its hopes for the tournament’s impact on Johor’s golf tourism. “The Johor Golf Association takes the development of amateur and junior sport seriously, and this annual tournament highlights golf in this country,” he said. He also extended thanks to all partners and the State Government of Johor for supporting the championship, aimed at preparing elite amateurs for future endeavours in professional golf and beyond.
