Mirabel Ting
Malcolm and Mirabel Ting made it a family affair at the PGM Royal Pahang Closed Championship 2025, surging to the top of the leaderboards in both the men’s and ladies’ divisions after a commanding performance at Kelab Golf DiRaja Pahang.
Malcolm surged to the top of the leaderboard after an impressive opening round of six-under-par 66 at the PGM Royal Pahang Closed Championship 2025.
He carded seven birdies against a single bogey on the par-four second hole, finishing the day with a one-shot lead over seasoned contenders Muhammad Shariffuddin Ariffin and Jaydon Wang, both tied at five-under 67. Shariffuddin delivered a bogey-free round that included an eagle on the par-five fourth, while Jaydon recorded seven birdies but was held back by two dropped shots.
Local amateur Fizul Hazmi also impressed with a four-under-par 68 to tie for fourth alongside Jeremiah Kim. Fizul, who hails from Pahang, made the most of his local knowledge to stay within striking distance of the leaders.
In the Ladies Championship, Mirabel Ting took the early lead with a five-under 67, carding six birdies and a lone bogey on the 17th hole. Hot on her heels is Aretha Pan, just one stroke behind at four-under. Geraldine Wong, winner of the PGM Order of Merit 2024, is currently three shots off the pace at one-under-par.
Blustery conditions throughout the day challenged the field, as strong crosswinds affected club selection and distance control. Several players struggled with accuracy, with errant shots finding penalty areas or drifting off fairways.
The PGM Royal Pahang Closed Championship 2025 offers a total prize purse of RM180,000, with the Ladies Championship featuring a RM30,000 purse.
