Malaysia’s Mirabel Ting made a commanding start at the LPGA Qualifying Series – Qualifying Stage, carding a flawless 7-under-par 65 to take the solo lead after the opening round at Plantation Golf and Country Club.

Competing on the Panther Course, Ting began her round on the 10th hole and wasted no time finding her rhythm, opening with a birdie and adding two more on holes 16 and 17 to turn at 3-under. The 21-year-old former Florida State University standout carried that momentum into her back nine, where she made three birdies in her first four holes to surge up the leaderboard.

“I was definitely a little nervous stepping up on the 10th tee this morning, but I managed it,” said Ting. “I hit my irons and putts really well today — though my driver was a bit wild at times.”

With her ‘sister’ Michelle Koh on the bag, Ting credited the calming presence for helping her stay composed through the round. “Normally I’m not that calm, but she kept me steady all day, and that really helped,” she added.

Ting, a seven-time collegiate winner, closed her bogey-free round with precision and poise to sit one shot ahead of Canada’s Megan Osland and Germany’s Polly Mack, who both posted 6-under 66s.

The field of 197 players comprising LPGA, Epson Tour, LET, WAPT, and top amateur competitors are all vying for a top-45 finish to advance to the Final Qualifying Stage of the LPGA Q-Series this weekend.

Round two resumes Thursday at 8:00 a.m. local time, with Ting looking to extend her advantage and keep her LPGA dreams on track.
