Selangor is set to host a month-long celebration of competitive golf in February, with the Selangor International Junior Golf Championship and the PKNS Selangor Masters taking place in successive weeks at Seri Selangor Golf Club.

The spotlight will fall on the US$175,000 PKNS Selangor Masters from February 11–14, which returns as the season-opening event of the Asian Development Tour (ADT) for the second consecutive year. The tournament will feature a full field of 144 players, comprising 80 ADT players, 40 from the Professional Golf of Malaysia (PGM) Tour, and 24 invitees.

Although the prize purse has been adjusted from US$200,000 to US$175,000, Ken Kudo, Associate Director, Partnerships at Asian Tour noted that it remains the second-largest prize fund on the ADT. The US$25,000 reduction has been redirected by title sponsor PKNS towards junior tournaments and development programmes, reinforcing the event’s long-term developmental focus.

With Asian Tour cards on offer for the top 10 finishers on the final ADT Order of Merit, the Selangor Masters represents a crucial early-season opportunity for aspiring professionals. Defending champion and 2025 ADT Order of Merit winner Tawit Polthai of Thailand will headline the international field, alongside emerging talents such as Filipinos Carl Jano Corpus and Aidric Chan, England’s Sam Broadhurst, Korea’s Minhyeok Yang and Indian teenager Kartik Singh. Australian veteran Deyen Lawson, runner-up in both 2023 and 2024, will also return in pursuit of the title.

Adding further depth to the field are established Asian Tour names including Singapore’s Mardan Mamat, Bangladesh’s Siddikur Rahman and Filipino Angelo Que, the Selangor Masters champion in 2010. They will be joined by leading Malaysian professionals such as 2022 champion Shahriffuddin Ariffin, Seri Selangor ambassador Marcus Lim, Khavish Varadan and Ervin Chang, both of whom are also competing on the Asian Tour this season.

Khavish earned his Asian Tour card through Qualifying School, while Chang retained his status by finishing 41st on the 2025 Asian Tour Order of Merit. The tournament’s commitment to developing Malaysian talent will also see invitational berths awarded to the top three finishers from a newly introduced 36-hole qualifying event, the champion of the 2025 Selangor Junior Masters, Japan-based Malaysian Daichi Hayashi, and the winner of the 2026 Selangor International Junior Golf Championship.

The PKNS Selangor Masters is promoted by PKNS Golf Management Services, a subsidiary of the Selangor State Development Corporation, with PKNS serving as title sponsor since 2022.

“Sports are deeply embedded in Selangor’s DNA,” said Dato’ Dr Ahmad Fadzli bin Ahmad Tajuddin, Chairman of the PKNS Selangor Masters Organising Committee and Selangor State Secretary. “Although we have yet to produce a world-class golfer, the Selangor Masters was established with that ambition in mind. Its move to the ADT platform has strengthened its role as a springboard for both professional and amateur players.”

The build-up to the Selangor Masters begins a week earlier with the fifth edition of the Selangor International Junior Golf Championship, scheduled for February 5–7. The World Amateur Golf Ranking event will feature 120 players aged 12 to 19 from 11 countries, competing over 54 holes in boys’ and girls’ individual and team events.

The junior championship will see 68 boys and 52 girls competing across 16 boys’ teams and 12 girls’ teams. While the team competitions remain the main focus, the boys’ individual champion will earn a place in the PKNS Selangor Masters, with an additional slot reserved for the top Malaysian finisher if the winner is a foreign player.

Korean junior Jung Jiwon will return to defend the boys’ individual title, having finished joint 19th at the Selangor Masters last year after earning his spot through the junior event. Japan dominated the 2025 edition of the junior championship, winning both team titles, while Thailand’s Sarisa Pojanalai claimed the girls’ individual honours.

Organised by UUM International School Melaka in collaboration with the Malaysian Golf Association, the Selangor International Junior Golf Championship is a full-hospitality event sponsored by the Selangor State Government, with PKNS Golf Management Services acting as promoter.

“Beyond competition, this championship is an important development platform that provides young golfers with international exposure at an early age,” said UUMISM founder and director David Jeong. “Many past participants have progressed to represent their countries at higher levels, and the fifth edition continues that mission while strengthening Malaysia’s position as a destination for international junior golf.”
