Adam Scott withdraws from the Zozo Championship after positive Covid-19 test

Australia’s Adam Scott has withdrawn from the Zozo Championship @ Sherwood after testing positive for Covid-19.

The 2013 Masters champion, who last competed at the US Open in September, will be replaced by Jim Herman in the 78-player field.

“While it’s difficult news to receive – as I really looked forward to playing this week – my focus now is on recovery for the final stretch of the fall,” said Scott, who is undergoing self-isolation under the United States’ Centers For Disease Control and Prevention guidelines.

Scott is the second high-profile player to pull out of the tournament due to Covid-19, following World No 1 Dustin Johnson who tested positive last week.

Defending champion Tiger Woods will be attempting to make history by winning a record 83rd PGA Tour title. Last year, the American golf legend equalled Sam Snead’s long-standing record of 82 career wins with a three-stroke victory at the inaugural Zozo Championship, played at Accordia Golf Narashino Country Club in Japan.

The US$8 million tournament was moved to the United States this year due to logistical issues caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Sherwood is a Jack Nicklaus Signature designed golf course and was the venue for Woods’ tournament, the Hero World Challenge, from 2000-2013. Woods has a terrific record at Sherwood where he won his own event five times (2001, 2004, 2006, 2007 and 2011) and finished runner-up on five other occasions.
