The Malaysian team for next week’s 12th Causeway Cup match against Singapore will be stylishly decked out in adidas Golf apparel, thanks to a sponsorship deal with the leading sports brand.
Staged annually since 2008, the Causeway Cup is a Ryder Cup-style match between members of the print and electronic media from Malaysia and their counterparts from Singapore. This year’s match will be played at Sentosa Golf Club in Singapore on September 9-10, with Malaysia leading the series by 7-4 having won the last three editions.
The close relationship between adidas and members of the local media fraternity was one of main factors in the sponsorship of the Malaysian squad, noted Eileen Fong, adidas Golf Malaysia’s senior manager, commercial.
“We have always enjoyed a good relationship with the media and when the opportunity arose to become a sponsor of the Malaysian Causeway Cup team, we did not hesitate,” noted Eileen.
2019 Malaysian Causeway Cup team captain Arep Kulal noted that the sponsorship from aididas Golf was a timely morale booster.
“The sponsorship from adidas is very important for the team, as managing the high costs of travelling to Singapore was one of the biggest challenges this year. It has certainly raised the spirits of Team Malaysia and will help us put on a strong performance in the upcoming Causeway Cup,” noted Arep.
