Amateur golfers Rizq Adam Rohizam and Zulaikah Nasser topped the men’s and women’s events respectively in the 2020 PGM Tour’s Qualifying School Leg 1 which ended yesterday at Impian Golf & Country Club.
The 15-year-old Rizq carded rounds of 71, 72 and 77 for a four-over-par total, one shot ahead of another amateur Sazanur Iman Salenin (72, 74, 75).
Experienced professional Iylia Jamil secured third place and a return to the PGM Tour with a seven-over-par total after rounds of 72, 77 and 74. As a pro, he took home RM1,920 in prize money.
Zulaikah, who is in her freshman year with Sam Houston State University in the United States, topped the ladies on five-over-par after rounds of 70, 74 and 77. She finished two shots ahead of another US-based amateur, Winnie Ng (University of Washington, Seattle) who signed in rounds of 77, 74 and 72.
Two more amateurs, Meghan Lee Zehui (+10) and Warda Amira (+13), were third and fourth respectively.
A total of 20 players (16 men and four ladies) gained their PGM Tour cards by finishing the 54-hole event at fifteen-over-par and better.
The main PGM Tour resumes with the PGM Glenmarie Championship and concurrent PGM Ladies Championship on September 23-26 at Glenmarie Golf & Country Club.
