Australian professionals Zach Murray and Matt Griffin will donate 25% of their winnings from the ongoing Blitz Golf Pro Series to the Australian Red Cross Appeal in aid of those directly impacted by the devastating bushfires in Victoria and New South Wales.
The duo join Australian athletes from a number of sports who have pledged to support the donation drive, including tennis star Nick Kyrgios.
“Being Australian, we’ve got to try and look after each other as much as we can. My family is all safe and sound but if they weren’t, this would mean the world to me.
“Hopefully we can encourage others to get behind this great cause. Even if one more person got on board, it would really help,” said Murray, who won the first leg of the Blitz Golf Series at Curlewis Golf Club in Victoria over the weekend.
The three-leg Blitz Golf Series forms part of the PGA of Australia‘s Ladbrokes Pro-Am Series. The second leg tees off at Links Hope Island in Queensland on January 10, followed by the third and final leg at Glenelg Golf Club in South Australia on January 12.
The event organisers are also donating A$5 for every birdie and A$50 for every eagle a professional golfer scores during the series to the fire relief effort.
