To help golf clubs and resorts structure action plans to manoeuvre through and thrive beyond the on-going Covid-19 pandemic, golf industry stalwart David Townend is offering a complimentary consultation service to any establishments that are keen to tap his expertise and experience.
“Every crisis presents opportunities for any industry to evolve and even expand … and golf is no exception,” said Townend, the founder and managing director of bespoke golf and hospitality management company Azalea Hospitality.
“While many golf clubs have been enjoying high traffic since the game was permitted to resume in Malaysia in early May, there is a need to look at the long-term prognosis and needs of the golf industry. We can assist clubs and resorts structure effective action plans across all aspects of their business, from operations and agronomy to their financial planning and marketing strategies,” added the Kuala Lumpur-based Australian, who was elected as vice-president of the Asian Golf Industry Federation in February this year.
Widely regarded as one of the leading golf club and resort experts in Asia, Townend has spent the past 30 years developing and operating award-winning facilities across the Asia-Pacific region. During his career, he has been engaged by leading management groups such as Starwood Hotels & Resorts, IMG and Troon Golf, to develop and manage their golf-related facilities. He spent five years as corporate director for the Asia-Pacific division of Troon Golf, overseeing business development and operations management.
Townend’s work saw him spending much of his time over the last decade or so abroad, most recently in Thailand as general manager for the highly-rated Amata Spring Country Club, where he successfully implemented strategic plans that resulted in record profit levels at the decade-old facility. With the Covid-19 pandemic curtailing travel, he has been working from home since March and is keen to make use of this travel downtime to share his knowledge with Malaysian golfing establishments.
“Malaysia is my home and I truly hope to assist any golf clubs or resorts that are looking to establish long-term plans to elevate their operations and marketability,” said the Australian, who is also a much sought-after speaker for golf/hospitality trade shows and conferences.
