With golf on hold in many countries including Malaysia and Singapore, this is a good time for stuck-at-home golfers to brush up on the Rules of Golf while staying engaged with the game.
A convenient way to do this is to use The R&A Rules Academy, an online resource for golfers of all levels and experience to learn the basics, culminating in an optional Level 1 Exam for those who wish to sit for it.
The Rules Academy utilizes diagrams, illustrations and videos to help golfers understand the Rules and test themselves with the most commonly occurring situations – for example, how to take relief for an unplayable ball, the options available from a penalty area and what can and cannot be done in bunkers.
All learning materials are available for free in the Rules Academy and golfers can work through them at their own pace and take the revision questions to test their understanding of the basics. An official certificate is provided for passing the exam.
“The Rules Academy is aimed at golfers of all abilities and is an ideal resource, especially for those at home just now looking to learn more about the Rules,” said Grant Moir, director – rules at The R&A. “Beginners, regular club golfers and elite players have all benefited from the Rules Academy since it was first launched in 2013.
“Some have even gone on to complete all three levels of The R&A’s Rules Education programme and now referee at various levels.”
