Persatuan Sindrom Down Malaysia (PSDM) and UKM Fairway Philanthropists (UFP) are pleased to announce the success of the Charity Golf Event 2023, which received overwhelming support from the community and raised funds of around RM100,000. The charity event, which took place at the Bukit Jalil Golf and Country Resort, was jointly organised by PSDM and UFP.
The funds will be used to establish PSDM’s new Early Intervention Centre at University Malaya and cover a range of expenses such as facility upgrades and educational resources.
Hanizan Hussin, President of PSDM said, “The Charity Golf Event 2023 has showcased the amazing spirit of unity within our community and brought us a step closer towards realising our vision for a more inclusive society. Through this event, we’ve not only raised significant funds but also managed to create awareness and understanding about Down Syndrome, contributing to the holistic development of these special individuals.”
Dr. Gary Tok, Project Director of UFP, remarked, “We take pride in the received response. This event is testimony to the potential of collaboration and community-driven initiatives. On behalf of our team of MBA students at UKM Graduate School of Business who were responsible for co-organising the charity tournament, we express our gratitude for the opportunity to contribute to this significant cause.”
The Charity Golf Event 2023 brought together 95 golfers. It received sponsorships from Harlow’s & MGI Sdn Bhd (Gold Sponsor), Tan Sri Vincent Tan of Berjaya Group, Datuk Abdul Malek Bin Abdullah, D’Tandoor Chairman and Advisor to PSDM, and Les Copaque. Meanwhile, PSDM was the co-sponsor of merchandise for the event.
Golfers who joined the tournament were individuals and employees from various entities, including Allo Technology Sdn. Bhd. and Tenaga Nasional Recreation Golf Club (TNRGC).
PSDM and UFP allocated a portion of the total funds raised at the Charity Golf Event 2023 to four NGOs, namely the National Cancer Society of Malaysia (NCSM), the Malaysian Association for the Blind (MAB), the Cerebral Palsy Alliance (Gabungan Anak-anak Palsi Serebrum-GAPS), and the Alzheimer’s Disease Foundation Malaysia (ADFM), each receiving RM1,000.
Lam Kong Foo emerged as the winner of the Medal A category with a score of 40 points. Ahmad Zaini Zainal, Yee Yen Mew, and Chan Tim Yeow each scored 34 points and became winners of the Medal B category. The putting challenge attracted participation from 41 players, and it was Mohd Zin Bin Su who claimed victory with a prize of RM410, which he generously contributed back to PSDM.
